Hari Ghotra Masterclass – A huge success

Fans of Indian cuisine beat a path to Reigate Grammar School for the last two weekends for a cookery masterclass from celebrity chef Hari Ghotra whose motto is ‘make it, love it, share it’.

People often tell me that cooking Indian food is a challenge: spices worry them, chilies worry them, and everyone thinks Indian food is unhealthy. The masterclass was a fantastic opportunity to help with all of those questions and worries as well as cooking up a storm with so many wonderful people. Everyone left with boxes filled with fragrant Indian dishes, all cooked by them, to share with their families for a curry-fueled Saturday night in.

The masterclass was in aid of Reigate Grammar School’s Foundation Changing Lives campaign which seeks to provide education for those students whose potential far outweighs their financial means.

Mrs Ghotra said: As a parent of a child that has recently started at the school, it has been wonderful to see how proud she is to have become a pupil here. I wanted to give my support to the RGS Foundation and help other children experience that same joy.

‘As a chef I cook and love to get other people cooking too so the masterclass was a great opportunity to do something I love, share some skills and also to raise some important charitable funds.

Reigate Grammar School Foundation Director Sean Davey said: ‘So many people love eating Indian food but don’t know how to make it, so this was a brilliant opportunity to learn. Everyone took home delicious food, but there was quite a bit of “tasting” during the day, too!’

The masterclass, along with other parent-led events, have raised £1,600 for the Changing Lives campaign.

Both days would not have been possible without the hard work of Mrs Bader and Mrs Day who ensured that both events ran very smoothly.
