100 Ball Bash! 2018 Fixture

The annual Cricket fixture between the RGS Foundation XI and Headmaster’s XI took place at RGS Hartswood last Friday with a select band of willing and (mostly) able participants. Innovation is at the heart of RGS and nowhere was this more evident than on the 1st XI pitch where the new ECB 100 ball format was tested out. Under the new guidelines, each team faced 15 six ball overs and one ten ball over, with an added twist. The ten ball over can be enforced by the batting side, at any time throughout the innings.

It was the Headmasters XI who won the toss and elected to bat first, posting an impressive target of 127 from their 100 balls. Staff members Mr Mann (24), Mr James (28) and Mr Leck (28) provided the backbone of the innings, all showing their impressive cricket ability.

After a quick turnaround, it was time for the RGS Foundation XI to get the pads on. Despite losing a few early wickets, Matt Wright (’89) and current RGS 1st XI Captain Ashwin B steadied the ship before Matt was dismissed for 20. Ashwin went on to hit a magnificent 75 before falling to his nemesis and Head of Cricket, Mr Leck. Despite some last minute hope from Jon Hart (RGS Parent) the RGS Foundation XI fell 7 runs short of the total. Shaun Fenton, RGS Headmaster and captain for the day, once again lifted the trophy and thanked all of those who participated and watched proceedings from the boundary after some delightful refreshments upstairs in the pavilion.
