Routes to: Careers in Law evening
On Wednesday 6 March, Reigate Grammar School’s Career department hosted a Careers in Law evening for students and their parents, which was attended by around 150 people, including a number of invitees from local schools such as The Warwick and Imberhorne. The event was aimed at students interested in studying Law and potentially seeking future employment in the sector.
We were delighted to welcome a panel of guests who represented a wide range of experiences within the world of Law. These included current RGS parents Wayne Beglan, Barrister, Katy Peters, University of Surrey lecturer in Law and Catherine Carter Shaw, in-house solicitor for Direct Line Group as well as former pupils Sam Brill (’16) undergraduate student of Law at University of Exeter and Mark Elsey (’78), lawyer and partner at Ashurst LLP who was accompanied by his daughter Izzy Elsey (’13), a specialist in graduate recruitment for the Stephenson Harwood Law firm.
We are extremely proud of so many of our former pupils who went on to successful careers in Law. Sir Keir Starmer KCB QC (’81) Shadow Brexit Secretary, is one of those pupils who shared these encouraging words for anyone interested in the field of Law:
“When I left RGS to study Law, I didn’t really know what I was in for! But what I discovered is that Law is fascinating and rewarding, offering varied legal careers depending on your interests; and Law is a gateway to so much more. A thoroughly worthwhile journey”.
We are extremely grateful to Anogika Souresh (’12), Emily Hocken (’13), Hafsa Majid (’16), Samson Brill (’16), Freddie Kenyon (’16) and George Elliston (’17) for their contributions to our Routes to Careers in Law booklet.
