Never a dull moment...

We Care Giving Day, what a success!

We hosted our We Care Giving Day 2023 on Tuesday 23 May and Reigatians all around the world joined in to support our local community in a multitude of ways.

Firstly, the students from the RGS family Reigate Grammar School, Reigate St Mary’s (RSM) and Chinthurst, donated unbranded school clothing and stationery in support of our local charity partner, Stripey Stork’s new School Days Appeal. We were delighted to be able to help supply local families with much needed school supplies and this initiative was well supported by the student community across all three sites.

To raise awareness of our Giving Day, the children from RSM and Chinthurst took part in a walk, collectively covering 100,000 metres! This was an astounding achievement and a great way to show how everyone pulling together can achieve great things! Well done everyone who took part!

Our Sixth Form Foundation Ambassadors, with help from the Charity Commission, continued to engage the students and staff alike, by selling donuts to the RGS community. There was even an impromptu ‘spin for a doughnut’ activity in the Foundation office … in exchange for a donation!  All doughnuts had been generously contributed by Chartwells Independent and were gratefully received by all who bought one (or more!).

The Reigatian community comprising students, staff and parents, past and present, affiliated  businesses and friends of RGS, both in the UK and around the world, were asked to help raise funds for our We Care Bursary Fund. This new fund was launched on Giving Day, in response to a need to support students who are in extremely difficult, unforeseen situations, at their time of need. The last few years have shown that tragedy can strike anyone at any time and the We Care fund will help smooth the transition to a brighter future.

Our Reigatian community have been absolutely fantastic in their support and, quite simply, we couldn’t do it without you. We have raised over £80,000 already, with donations continuing to come in. This is the power of our collective community. We truly value engagement at all levels as every bit of support really does help and this Giving Day saw donations from over 1000 contributors across the global Reigatian community. The donation link to the We Care Bursary Fund is up and running on our website for anyone choosing to support: I want to donate to the We Care Bursary Fund.

We have so many people to thank – everyone who donated to Stripey Stork or the We Care fund or who shared our progress over social media and cheered us on and all the people working behind the scenes to make the day go smoothly. Thank you also to our Headmaster, Shaun Fenton, who is such a good sport to let us throw gunge over him in celebration of meeting all our Giving Day challenges! If you are one of the few who haven’t yet seen the video, you can watch it here and see the We Care Giving Day 2023 gallery.

Thank you all again for your continued support and showing our local community, yet again, how much WE CARE!
