Remembrance Service -9th November 2018
“They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
We will remember them. When you go home tell them of us and say –
For your tomorrow, we gave our today.”Robert Laurence Binyon, from ‘For The Fallen’
On Friday 9th November at RGS we remembered and honoured those who died the the pursuit to secure and protect our freedom. The whole school took part in a service with a two-minute silence and wreaths were laid at the 3 memorials at the School.
Our special thanks go to Bob Harden (RGS Former staff) for reading the Act of Remembrance in the Service. The Last Post was played and RGS choir Polyphony sang Abide with me. An invited group from across the Reigatian community attended a special service at the RGS Memorial Garden where members of our party could remember those they knew from their days at school.
You can read about the alumni who are remembered on the WWI Memorial at RGS in ‘They Were More Than Just Names’ by John Rowlands (RGS 1966-73)
