TEDx returns to RGS – What’s your spark?

The RGS TEDx Talks event held in the Old Library on Tuesday 27 June 2023 at school gathered an array of talented students who have all have had a ‘spark’ that has inspired them in a particular area. Among the talented speakers, one name stood out – the former pupil, turned entrepreneur, Say Vivekanantham (RGS ’09)

Say took the stage as the keynote speaker, captivating the audience with his compelling journey of transformation. Having initially pursued a career as a qualified doctor, he made a life-altering decision to embark on a new path as an entrepreneur. This brave choice was driven by a spark that ignited within him—a passion for creating innovative solutions and pushing boundaries.

During his inspiring talk, Say shared his remarkable accomplishments, which included owning a diverse portfolio of properties and launching a ground-breaking start-up named Homey. He delved into the motivation behind his decision to enter the world of property and his vision for revolutionising the process of buying and selling residential properties.

His brainchild, Homey, seeks to digitise and accelerate the often cumbersome and time-consuming property transaction process. By leveraging cutting-edge technology and innovative strategies, Homey aims to streamline the experience, making it more accessible, efficient, and transparent for all parties involved. Say’s entrepreneurial spirit and determination shone through as he spoke passionately about his venture’s potential to reshape the industry.

The event was not solely focused on Say’s journey, as it also provided a platform for other students to share their diverse experiences and expertise. Fourteen students took the stage, covering a wide range of topics, from quantum physics to the war in Ukraine. Their talks showcased the depth of talent and knowledge within the RGS community.

The RGS TEDx Talks event left a lasting impression on both the audience and speakers. It emphasised the importance of embracing change, following one’s passion, and pursuing innovative ideas. Say’s journey from a qualified doctor to an accomplished entrepreneur served as a reminder that it’s never too late to pursue one’s dreams and make a meaningful impact in the world.

As the event concluded, the audience left inspired, armed with new perspectives, and a renewed belief in the power of transformative ideas. The RGS TEDx Talks became a testament to the potential within each individual to create change, pursue their passions, and positively impact the world around them.
